Warrington’s 12 & under soon to be known as Warrington Whirlwinds took on a strong Royton side in their first competitive game for most of our players. Only Team Captain Katie Bowater played last season. The game consisting of two ten minute half’s started well for Royton with some excellent attacking play which saw Royton build a significant lead. Emily Ireland, Warrington’s player of the month scored her first goal in a competitive game but at half time Warrington trailed 1-6. In the second half it was more of the same with Royton’s strong players bursting through and scoring far too easily. Marcus Woods managed to grab a goal and the half ended 1-5 and the final score 2-11. Katie Bowater worked tirelessly to try and support attack and defence and was Warrington’s best player. The Warrington team contain’s a lot of potential and much was learnt about where improvements could be made. The team coached by Courtney Dean and Tom Costello have plenty to work on over the coming weeks and months but I’m sure all will have a lot of fun playing games and getting better and better with each match.
