Warrington v Bridgefield Blues (Snr) L&D League

 10th September

Warrington played host to the probable L&D league winners for 2014, Bridgefield Blues which included senior international Tom Curwen. Warrington had a mixture of players lined up from some in the autumn of their careers and some strong younger players. The team started the first quarter without a team talk as coach was busy setting the pitch up. Bridgefield attacked the deep and scored two quick goals. Andy Mason was then excluded after holding a Bridgefield player. Bridgefield converted the man up to go 0-3 in to the lead. Andy Mason was excluded again and four seconds later Bridgefield were 0-4 ahead.

A two minute team talk and attacking the deep would perhaps help Warrington back into the match. Bridgefield had not read the script and scored a 5th goal. Ian Musgrove pulled one back for Warrington but Bridgefield scored again to make it 1-6. Ian Musgrove then scored with 36 seconds left but had time to score another with 1 second left on the clock. Warrington winning the quarter 3-2 and the half time score was 3-6.

In the third quarter Warrington defended the deep and Bridgefield were difficult to contain with fast cross breaks and quick passing they scored just after a minute. Warrington pulled one back as Addison Brown scored his first goal. Bridgefield then scored three further goals and the quarter finished 4-10 to Bridgefield.

In the final quarter Warrington were looking for a better quarter but Bridgefield scored first. Warrington continued to attack as Addison Brown scored then Ian Musgrove scored a great goal with a quick pass from our 2m to the oppositions 2m Ian caught the ball turned and shot into the top corner giving the Bridgefield goalkeeper no chance, sometimes water polo can be so simple. The score board showed 6-11 and there was a glimmer of a Warrington come back. The comeback continued as Tom Hadley scored and then 40 seconds later Addison Brown scored his third goal to make it 8-11. Tom Hadley scored again to bring Warrington within two goals but with 55 seconds left Bridgefield scored and then with 12 seconds left scored again to bring the final score to 9-13.

A really good fight back from Warrington against an excellent Bridgefield side.

Warrington’s Team included Peter Burke (GK), Addison Brown (3), Tom Hadley (2), Ian Musgrove (4), Andy Burke, Tom Costello, Paul Dainteith, Andy Mason, and Tim Mainwaring. adHadley
