1st Quarter
Warrington’s started well in their first league match of the season, Conor won a penalty in the first 20 seconds and took it, hitting the post. Dominic scored in just under 2 minutes of the quarter and got a another goal within the next minute. Conor gave a penalty away, with the penalty being saved by Luke. Bridgefield scored with 3 minutes of the quarter remaining. Both teams defended well with no further goals in the quarter. Warrington led 2-1 at the end of the quarter.
2nd Quarter
Both teams continued to defend well in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd quarter. Conor scored after 3 minutes with a good shot from the right in to the top left hand corner and Dominic scored after 4 minutes. Dan did some great defensive play, he picked up his 2nd exclusion after 4 minutes. Quick thinking by Ben and Conor after Ben got fouled, he passed to Conor who lobbed it back to Ben to palm the ball into the net making the score 5-1. Luke made a series of good saves. Dominic, in good goal scoring form, scored another with a minute of the quarter remaining, with a great long range shot. Conor was wrapped up a few seconds later, having given away the penalty in the first quarter and 2 quick exclusions. Conor paid the price for a good Centre Back performance. Good defensive play from Warrington with the quarter ending 6-1.
3rd Quarter
Warrington continued to play well in the 3rd quarter defending well with Luke making some great saves, one was from a great shot that Luke saved with his forearm. Brett was all over the pool and he did some great defensive play, he picked up his second exclusion half way through the half. Katie had a good game and it was her that scored first in this quarter after 3 minutes. Molly scored her first goal of the game after 5 minutes of the quarter with Dominic getting another goal, with a minute and half of the quarter remaining. Riley made his debut for the 14’s and he played well with a good defensive display. Great defence from Warrington with them not conceding, ended with them leading 9-1 at the end of the quarter.
4th Quarter
Ben picked up his second exclusion after 2 and half minutes of the half. Both teams defended well until Dominic did a great pass to Molly, who showed great strength to turn and score at the end of the 4th minute of the quarter. Bridgefield started to play well offensively, Matthew Kendal coming close with a backhand shot hitting the post and scoring Bridgefield’s second goal after 4 and half minutes of the quarter. Warrington replied quickly with another good shot from Dominic resulting in a goal. Then 2 goals in quick succession for Bridgefield, the first a good lobbed goal, the player then tried another lob which was saved by Ben on the line. Molly scored with 2 seconds left of the game to make it a 12-4 win for Warrington.
Match Summary
A very entertaining game and a great team performance by Warrington. A mature performance with good solid defence, good passing and finding players in the right position to score. I am sure that Tom Costello is very pleased with how his team played.
