SNW (U14) Club Championships 2017 - Saturday 28th January

This tournament consisted of 10 teams across the North West region split into 2 groups.

Each team played one another and then progressed into playoffs to determine final positions.

Our team was young and relatively inexperienced versus the other teams who had big players and big squads.

Our first game was against Liverpool WPC where we only had 7 players which meant no substitutes versus a Liverpool team with subs.

We started off nervously as we conceded the first goal in the opening minute.

The team then suddenly found their form and scored three goals without reply (2 from Louis and one from Eleanor).

Leo then made a good save to maintain our advantage and keep the score at 3-1.

However, the extra numbers made a difference in the second half as we conceded 4 goals and consequently lost the first game 5-3.

The next game was against Bridgefield B where Emily and Leo swapped positions (Emily now in goal) and we scouted 2 extra players (Matt and Adam).

Once again a slow start meant that we were 1-0 down but soon after Louis got one back with a steal soon followed with a goal from Bridgefield to give them the advantage and make the score 2-1.

Emily made a string of good saves to keep the scores close and soon after Louis equalised with a solo goal.

Matt won the game in the final few minutes with a goal to make it 3-2. A great result !

The next game was against Tyldesely where Emily and Leo swapped positions again with Leo in goal this time.

Warrington got off to a flying start with Matt scoring the first goal with a great team move involving James, Eleanor and Matt.

Tyldesely then started to find their feet and scored soon after to make it 1-1.

Strong defending from Sam and Evie kept the scores level and then Warrington got their noses back in front with another goal from Matt.

Tyldesely kept the pressure on us and subsequently scored 4 more goals to make the score 5-2.

Warrington came back to score another goal but it was too late as the game ended 5-3. A good result against a strong and experienced Tyldesely team.

The last group game was against Manchester A.

This was a very strong and experienced Manchester team who got into stride very quickly and scored 5 goals.

However, Warrington stuck to their task and responded well with a penalty from Louis (5-1).

Manchester A then came back strongly with another 4 goals to make the score 9-1.

Warrington players never stopped trying and led to Eleanor scoring (9-2).

Further strong defending from Evie, James and Sam ensured that Manchester did not score again until the final minute to make the final score 10-2.

This meant that we had  the group stages 4th in our group and consequently had to play in a 7th/8th playoff match against Lancaster.

Unfortunately for this final match at the end of a long afternoon, we had no subs.

Lancaster started well scoring the first goal and forcing Leo to make a succession of good saves.

They then scored their second goal from a rebound to make it 2-0.

A good team move involving Emily, Louis and Eleanor pulled one back for Warrington.

Lancaster then hit back with 2 goals despite great team defence from Evie, Sam and James (4-1 to Lancaster).

Louis and Eleanor then scored for Warrington with Lancaster scoring in between to make it 5-3.

Eleanor then had a shot that hit the bar and James had a great effort which just went over the bar.

Lack of substitutes meant that Lancaster got away in the second half and eventually won the match 10-3.

Overall, we finished 8th against some very strong teams who had more experience and more players.

Well done everyone – as the team plays together more and gets stronger with age and experience, the future looks good.
