Congratulations to Hazel Musgrove on her Olympic Selection

Congratulations to Hazel Musgrove who has been named today in the GB Ladies Team to take part in the London Olympics. Hazel had been part of a training squad of 20 with the team of 13 being named today. Its excellent news for all the hard work Hazel has put in over the past few years.

Hazel joined Warrington SC in 2000 when she was eleven years of age and played in U14, U16 teams and won L&D, M&D, Cheshire Leagues and Cup with Warrington. Hazel went on to play in the National League for Liverpool then went through the Regional and National Development Squads. In 2009 Hazel was selected for Great Britain and has played in the Hungarian League together with the GB Team in prepartion for the Olympics. Im sure we will all look out for Hazel during the Olympics.

Hazel has agreed to come down to Water Polo Training on Saturday (30th June) at 6pm to present the Mini Polo children with their badges and certificates.

Tom Hadley & James Williams selected to play for North West Region

I am pleased to announce that Tom Hadley and James Williams have been selected to play for North West Region for players born 1995 & under. Having attended three other trial sessions and against stiff opposition from players from all over the North West including Lancaster who are the top side in the country Tom and James can be proud of their achievement. They will now play in the Inter Regional competition which takes place at Walsall on the 14th & 15th July 2012. James will be vice captain of the team. Both Tom and James have played water polo since they were 12 playing and training with Warrington Swimming Club. I’m sure we all wish them well in the competition.

Level 9 NPTS water polo badges

We now have 5 children who have passed their level 9 NPTS water polo badge. They include Elena Forde, Emelia Ford, Abbie Carroll, Abigail Collins and Poppie Beardsell. They are the first children in Warrington to achieve level 9 in water polo.

Two boys have passed level 8 this month Matt Williams and Jake Williams that makes a total of 13 children who have passed level 8 in 2012. Well done to you all.

Orford Park Sports Centre

Today I visited the new Orford Park Sports Centre, soon to be named Live Wire with facilities that can only be described as state of the art. The 25m pool (8 lanes) is a bright and open area with a high roof. The teaching pool 15m x 9m has a moveable floor which goes from 0 to 1.8m. We/I had hoped to have mini polo there on a Tuesday but we have not had the go ahead yet, I can see some obstacles but lets wait and see. The main pool would make a fantastic arena for water polo with seating (which is actually comfortable) for 250. Unfortunately there are no plans to allow water polo at the venue. Our tour guide, a duty manager did mention the excellent bar and how it would be handy for the water polo players, but I dont think they will get much business from the 12 & under team. So that’s an ambition to bring water polo to Live Wire. I believe membership is £26/month and seems really good value. I don’t think Total Fitness will be very pleased.
